About

Lisa is a clinical psychologist and member of the Australian Psycholological Society, bound by its Code of Ethics and strict Ethical Guidelines.

All Psychologists in Australia have to be registered by the Psychologists Registration Board.

In order to be registered, psychologists must undertake four years of university plus at least two years of supervised experience. Clinical psychologists continue with postgraduate qualifications such as a Master in Clinical Psychology.

Lisa has 24 years experience as a psychologist and 19 years in private practice, as well as experience working in the Public sector and hospitals. She is a Clinical Psychologist. (Clinical psychologists are considered experts in providing psychotherapy, psychological testing and in diagnosing mental illness).

Psychologists help people to develop the skills needed to function better (including changing their thinking and behaviour) and to prevent ongoing problems. Lisa has special expertise in the treatment of depression (including Post Natal), anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, relationship issues and in particular sex therapy. This includes treating gender issues, mis matched drives and Internet pornography “addiction”.

A prospective client does not need a GP referral to attend, however if they receive mental Health Care Plan from a GP (a special type of referral) they will be eligible to obtain a generous rebate from medicare for 10 sessions per year, making treatment much more affordable. Lisa also does Life Coaching aimed at helping people to restore a healthy work-life balance, rather than targeting any problem or illness per se.

Before the first meeting with a psychologist, some people may feel nervous, embarrassed or worried. Lisa will do her best to help people feel at ease while she works with them to find ways of managing their situation. A client will be helped to create their own picture of how they would like their life to be. Then together with Lisa they will explore stumbling blocks to achieving their goals and help them achieve the skills to work around them or remove them all together. This will be done with a generous dose of humour and respect!

Lisa uses a variety of psychological approaches, depending on the person’s needs, but basically this is done in collaborative partnership with the client. In essence, this means astutely listening to a person to understand their psychological issues and treatment goals, then developing a treatment plan by linking this to the relevant research on most effective practices. She draws from her training in the following treatment approaches: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Focused Therapy, hypnosis, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness based Cognitive therapy (ACT).
